OTHER WAYS YOU CAN SERVE

ESTHER DEEL WHOLLY THREAD & WHINE CIRCLE

Esther Deel Circle is St. John's Knitting and Crocheting Ministry.  The group meets once a month on a Sunday following our 10:30am service.  Prayer shawls are made and presented to those grieving the loss  of a loved one, and to those who are ill and in despair. The group also makes Baptismal blankets which are blessed and presented to those being baptized at St. John's. Anyone who enjoys knitting or crocheting is invited to join the ministry.

For more information, please contact ESTHER DEEL's Coordinator.

PARISH LIFE

Parish Life Ministry focus is to build community by supporting programs and events that allow parishioners to connect with one another socially and spiritually. Some of the Parish Life activities include the Annual Parish Picnic held in the fall, Pie Auction, Advent Dinner, Epiphany Dinner, and the Pancake Breakfast.  Parish Life plays an important part in making St. John's a vibrant, involved and active parish.

WOMEN OF ST. JOHN'S

Women of St. John’s, formerly called Monday Mission Society, is open to all ladies of St. John's.  Meetings are held once a month in person and weekly on Monday evenings at 7pm via ZOOM for prayers.  The ladies assist with events and activities of the church, some of which include assembling and sending care packages to our college students, baking and packaging baked items for the National Cathedral Flower show, and stuffing eggs for the Easter egg hunt.

For more information about the Women of St. John's,  please contact WoStJ COORDINATOR.

OUTREACH MINISTRY

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."  -  1 Peter 4:10

St. John's Outreach Ministry oversees efforts to implement a part of it's vision - "Striving to serve beyond our walls". We seek to meet both physical and spiritual needs of our  community and beyond our walls in the following ways -

  • Outdoor Food Pantry - which provides shelf stable food for the unhoused and those in need.  The Pantry is accessible 7 days a week.

  • Our Neighbor's House - Partnering with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) we help provide furnishings and help set up apartments for arriving migrant families.

  • African Palms Ministry - Through the sale of Palm Crosses and totes, the ministry supports the Diocese of Masasi, Tanzania with funding for various projects within their community.

Past activities have included:

  • Creating and assembling Hygiene Kits for the Maryland Correction Institution for Women;
  • Supporting orphaned children in Odessa, Ukraine through Universal Aid for Children, an organization which  provides healthcare, education and emotional support to a orphans in need.
  • Supporting the mission of the United Thank Offering in The Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion that the church budget does not cover.
