St. John's Our Neighbor's House Ministry is back! We are welcoming as our neighbors Afghans and other refugees by furnishing the first apartments of refugees legally being resettled in our community by the U.S. State Department and International Rescue Committee. We have committed to furnish one apartment in November. We hope to do this with another parish to lighten our load and lift the generous donations we have already received from our community.
This year we are also expanding the ministry to include mentoring a family resettled by the IRC in Montgomery County. In teams of up to four we will be matched with a family. We will engage with the family weekly for six months to offer friendship, advice and support. We encourage you to join this ministry to welcome the stranger.
St. John's will be welcoming a family of 5 resettled by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) by furnishing an apartment. The items will be collected at St. John's and will be taken directly to the apartment. Arrangements are being made to have a truck or trailer pick up larger items from the donor's home or other location. Please note, we no longer have a storage room for items, so please drop off items ONLY on the designated date we receive from IRC. Although, no specific date has been given, the aim is for the first or second Saturday in December.
The link below provides a list of needed items to furnish the apartment. Items will NOT BE STORED AT THE CHURCH. There will be a 2-3 days collection period prior to the move in date (early December).
